It is too bad they did not at least go for 4MB video RAM.
Or, much better, go for the 3D Rage Pro set and 8MB with a 17"
monitor. Go to 64MB SDRAM with 6.5GB HD, price the 266MHz version at
$1499 and, with decent wavetable sound, you have a pretty attractive
competitor.

Good question!
After all, an "all in one" design is just about the only way a
major computer manufacturer can cash in on its production capabilities.
Otherwise, it's stuff looks just like the products of
small-capital-outlay makers which slap together widely available
components.
So, given that you sell your All in One models or forget it, why
would Apple deliver a couple All in One of turkeys?
Supposedly, someone at Apple could supply an answer. What matters
here is that Apple is not offering competitive main market machines.
Their weakie All in One models target a very limited market-- i.e. users
who want a relatively compact, put-together system, name brand support,
and have no special interest in good graphics display capabilities and
no need for decent HD capacity and who do not mind paying a little extra
to obtain these features.
The $1499 machine is the kind of All in One product Apple needs to
deliver in order to sell lots of Apple computers to the main market. If
Apple can not produce such a $1499 machine, it needs to get out of the
PC-making business and start making New Apple II's.
