Problems setting up SSC
I recently bought an Apple //e and it has an Apple Super Serial card. (
I used a ][e back in highschool, about 15 years ago. I am now a
software engineer, and decided to get an old //e to play with at home)
To test out the SSC, I plugged it into my IBM PC (win95) and ran the
hyper terminal program.
On the //e, I wrote a little BASIC program uses a for..next lop to print
out numbers from 1 to 100. I do a PR#2 (the SSC is in slot 2), and I
get characters appearing on the PC.
The problem is that all the characters have the most significant bit
set, so the characters appear scrambled. Then I did an IN#2 on the
Apple. I am now able to type on the PC, and the commands appear on the
//e. Everything works fine, EXCEPT the characters going from the //e to
the PC have the MSB set. (The characters in the other direction are OK,
including uppercase, lowercase and control characters.)
I don't have any manuals for the SSC, so I checked out the FAQs and
Nathan Mate's site, and go the dip switch settings. Because everything
is working except for the MSB on one-way data, I am pretty sure the
problem is not cabling, handshaking or the setup of the terminal program
on the PC.
I haven't seen anything in the FAQs about a problem like this.
Help please.
The setup is 19200, 8, N, 1

I did try it in slot 1 with the dip switches set for terminal
communications, but no luck.
I would also appreciate any additional info on the SSC. In particular,
a description of the I/O locations, and how to access the serial port
from assembly language.
Thanks in advance,
