epson problems

A friend of mine who moved to Japan recently bought an apple mac, this
was a Japanese machine, since she cant read Japanese too well she needs
the OS and the drivers in English. I've since sent her the british
version of os8 which works without any problems, and has downloaded
american scanner drivers which work without any problem, in other words,
the British OS and American drivers seem to work fine on  a Japanese
machine.  Still following me.
Anyway she decided to buy a new printer because the one she got with the
mac , although worked fine, was pretty low quality, she bought an 'epson
pm 600c' and connected it to the serial port, then downloaded the
american drivers for the 'epson 600' since she couldn't find any drivers
for the '600c'.. problem is that the mac doesn't recognize the printer
as being connected, which leads me to believe that this might be a
problem with the '600' drivers being incompatible with the printer she
has, first of all i have never heard of the 'epson pm 600 c'. is this a
mac printer
is this a Japanese only printer that would work only with Japanese
software
or is the stylus 600 drivers just incompatible.

any help on this would be appreciated
