I have one of their cards and emulation programs. Gemulator currently
only supports the Mac Plus and Atari (8-, 16-, and 32-bit) systems,
though they are working on a System 8.0 compatible version of their
emulation software. The card is for inserting real Mac ROM's, which I
got from a local Apple dealer off of a dead Mac motherboard.
The Atari emulation is very fast and fairly complete. The Mac
emulation is pretty slow, even for a Mac Plus. Well, I guess it's a
little faster than a Mac Plus on my Pentium 233MMX, but I still feel
it is disappointingly slow. It makes me concerned about the speed of
System 8.0 in their next version. I have ROM's from an Apple IIcx
already installed; so I'm just waiting for the software update.
The other problem has to do with getting files into the emulator. The
Atari emulator can see, read, and write to every device on the PC.
But the Mac emulator can only see MacOS images, the 3.5" floppy drive,
and Mac-formatted SCSI drives. I still haven't been able to format
and recognize a Jaz cartridge as a Mac drive through the Mac emulator.
Overall, I'm pleased with the emulator though not blown away by it.
It isn't everything I had hoped for, but it's nice to be able to run
Mac applications side-by-side with Windows applications.
