Re: Wozniak vs Jobs

Ever since about 1989 I have thought about making an ARM mother board for the
Apple IIe or GS. If I could get commitments for 1000 units it would be a
breeze. GS is easier because I would use an ADB port and not worry about the
IIe keyboard. Probably add an ISA buss slot and a PCI and use IDE drives. 40
MHz ARM7500 and a 200 MHz StrongArm option. Standard PC type video SVGA, etc.

How about $500 bucks a piece? Have to start with software from scratch. Its a
hackers dream. CodeWarrior now supports the ARM with their C compiler but there
is an object oriented Forth called MOPS which would be the greatest. Also and
ARM C compiler for MPW and one from ARM that runs on a PC and has an emulator.
Oh yeah, one of the design criteria for the ARM was efficient 65C02 emulation
so you would be able to run native Apple II at the equivalent of 20+ MHz on the
40 and who know what on a StrongArm. There must also be a LINUX port to the ARM
as well. How about turning your old IIe crate into a high performance UNIX box?

friend of mine has done nearly all the work doing the same thing to fit in a
generic PC box and use the PC keyboard and mouse and all that. I have one and
it is pretty cool. ARM7500.
