Correction to the above -- that should have read:
Mensch is probably right...at 8Mhz, the 65816 is doing 4 MIPS,
flattening an 8Mhz 286. The 6Mhz ARM is doing 8 MIPS...
The average IBM AT kept up with your original Mac quite well.
