Re: Phasor sound card..

It was simply a fancy Mockingboard compatible sound card.
It had two pairs of AY-3-8913 sound chips (3 voices - plus 1
white noise generator per chip, so 12 voices and 4 white-
noise channels altogether) with an SSI-263 speech synthesis
chip as well (there was an extra socket to add a second one).
The board also had a 4-watt amplifier, so it could drive
most non-powered speakers (in true stereo of course).

>Which slots to use..

Any slot expect slot-3 should be fine, though slot 4 is
what I would recommend as most Mockingboard software looked
for a card in that location. The only native Phasor program
(aside from AE's included disk) was Ultima V I believe, and
that lets you select the slot it is in.

>Can u use regular speakers with the RCA plugs..?

Yep, there are dual RCA (left/right) plugs on the card,
though you can get an adapter to use a 1/8" phono at Radio
Shack or any other electronics/video/stereo shop.

As I mentioned above, you can use non-amplified speakers
(with no power source) since it has a built-in amplifier. It
works quite well with either type of speakers.

>Anyone have a manual...? Thanks...

I do, somewhere here (in fact that reminds me, as soon
as I dig it up, I owe someone a photocopy that I promised
several years back :). There isn't much you need to know,
expect perhaps the DIP switch settings to put it into either
one of three modes: Native Phasor, Mockingboard or Echo+
(the latter never worked for me).

I posted the DIP switch settings to this group years
ago, which I'm fairly sure managed to get archived on the
Ground FTP site (I stumbled upon it in the /Info or the
/MiscInfo folder a couple of months ago). The URL there is
http://ground.isca.uiowa.edu/apple2 (use http:// rather
than FTP so you can easily browse through the text files).
