Um, excuse me...piggybacking chips fixed my IIe for SIX YEARS.
I am not saying that it is the most elegant solution or that it is the
best solution, but it worked in my case. I saw the fix in an issue
of Family Computing magazine.
If you don't believe me, I can dig up that old issue of Family
Computing, scan the article, and email it to you!
The only reason I did this was because I did not know how to
desolder at the time. If you don't know how to desolder the chip,
might as well try this method.
