People never talk about it much, but about this time Steve W crashed his plane
off the end of the runway in Santa Cruz injuring a bunch of people (more than
were supposed to fit on board), seriously injuring himself and nearly killing
his first wife. His involvement dropped considerably after this. The timing was
unfortunate. When I saw him at the reunion in '89 he still didn't seem quite
with it, by which I mean he had diminished to the level of the average genius
and lost interest in the company.
