Hi. I missed out on some earlier part of this thread, but it is true we
have put together a lab from discards. However, most of the came right
from our district! Many school are just dumping the old machines ---
I recognize that 'hoarding syndrome' because I have a stack of IIe's
stuffed in a closet at school, along w/ drives etc. I keep themm for
spare parts.
The success we have had is putting together cool GS systems w/ focus
drive & extra ram. You know that makes a nice machine that kids will not
laugh at. They do Hyperstudio projects & play Tetris & other games at lunch.
I was able to upgrade those machines by selling off some cards I may have
found like IIe ram or even workstation cards. They are unused by the
district most importantly not on inventory (he,he) so I could get
creative & try to get what we need by dealing w/ csa2 folks.
Of which -- anyone know James Poore? I posted that question a few days
back -- I hate to say he ripped off our class, but after a month w/ no
contact it is starting to look that way, grrr... I maybe got too trusting
as so many people on this newsgroup have been so kind in helping us out!
But I am rambling. Oh, another nail in Apple coffin at schools -- not
only are they dumping IIes , but it looks like they won't buy many more
Macs. Why? Market share numbers...
ok, have fun!
