If you are sure that your Zip works okay at 16k and that it works
okay for a few minutes at 64k, then, one possibility is over-heating.
One or more of your other memory IC's could be over-heating or some
other IC over-heats when you go to a larger cache. One test is to remove
the case lid and use a portable fan to blow air across the Zip board.
Cooling may eliminate the problem. If it does, great! You just need
to find a way to move air across the board; or, if one particular memory
IC is getting too hot, you can try swapping-in one which does not.
It may be that cooling will not do the trick. If so, try doing more
intensive testing just after startup. For example, run Platinum Paint,
load-in 3-4 pics, and do a lot of fills. Do several OA-CTRL-Esc accesses
to the Desk Accessories Menu. ... Mainly, you want to try lots of
memory-intensive stuff and other things that commonly expose system
weaknesses to see whether the system crashes before anything has had a
chance to heat up. Post what you discover; and, be sure to list what
other cards are plugged into your Slots.
