Since Simon wasn't very clear, here's what to do...

Go to the Desk Accessories (open-apple/control/escape), go to Control
Panel, go to Options, and the first couple (layout and display) should
be set to "USA".  Yeah, there's a CDEV for that under the Apple menu's
Control Panel that does the same thing as well, if you have it in & on.

And if that doesn't fix the problem, and you've still got problems,
it's something more sinister in either the box-to-keyboard cable or
the character ROM on the motherboard...
