Re: Upgrading TWGS; Need GALs
This response brings up another point - if the GALs were meant to slow
down the TWGS, what happens when you put a faster 65816 in place such as
-14 (or a -20 mhz)? Will the GALs continue to slow down the card or
will the new chips ignore the GALs altogether?
Is there a 64k cache upgrade possible for the TWGS? What would be
needed? I have an 80 mhz oscillator and run at about 15 mhz with a ROM
1.8 and 32k cache. Everything flies but I have other problems. I needed
a devoted power source not shared by any other device. I needed 2 heavy
duty fans and I can't use too many of my other cards without overheating.
Also the GS seems to skip some files in the process of opening things.
Later when it discovers these files missing, it either hangs or corrupts
the desktop file. I've locked it and it seems to have helped. I've sent
the corrupted desktop file to Nathan to see if he can find where it's
failing. I'm beginning to think that about 15 mhz is top speed for a
GS without skipping files. I use a Vulcan Gold HD. I did a defrag but it
didn't help.
Note: Full screen Wolf3D rocks your socks at 15 mhz.
