Re: Accelerator //e

It runs at a 3.5 MHz speed, compared to stock 1.024 MHz speed.

The TransWarp runs at 3.6 MHz--and although they are relatively
identical in speed, the TransWarp is probably the better of the two.
Neither board, to my knowledge, use caching for their acceleration
technique. Instead they override the Apple's memory with faster RAM
(dynamic memory) and a faster 65C02 to execute instructions in that
space. Thing is the Accelerator IIe has only 64K of fast memory,
while the TransWarp has 256K.

The TransWarp can accelerate things in both main and auxiliary
RAM, while the Accelerator IIe just accelerates main memory. With
my own Accelerator IIe this seems to be true as a number of titles
still run at 1 MHz (although I can't be sure, since my card is
damaged and doesn't work quite right). I _do_ know the card, when
it is working, actually runs 8-bit software faster than my IIc Plus
or IIgs with caching accelerators. However, as far as accelerators
go for 8-bit Apple II's, I've always heard the ZipChip or Rocket
Chip were superior in terms of compatibility, etc.
