hyperstudio recording

I have a PowerMac 8600. I am having trouble recording in HyperStudio. 
Sounds that are already in the library are not a problem.  However, if I
record off of a CD or try to use the microphone for voice, I get a
recording with static. (Yes, I have made sure to switch from microphone
to CD and vice versa within monitors and sound.) I have even downloaded
SoundBuilder and recorded a sound. It will play beautifully ANYWHERE
including ClarisWorks, but not HyperStudio.  I have resorted to taping
sounds on other computers and bringing them in. This works but isn't
convenient.  What could be wrong and how do I fix it?  I have called
Apple and they suggested that I ask Roger Wagner since it is  third party
software.  Roger Wagner said to try recording the sound as a Quick Time
movie. I really don't want to do that because of sound quality and space.
I need to mmention that it is not a bad copy of HyperStudio.  I had 2
demo discs that didn't work and I just bought a full-running copy that's
having the same trouble.
