Re: IIGS Battery

Dr. Buggie couldn't help but dribble:

BUE(| Most of the IBM computers have the round tubular lithium 3.6v
     | battery somewhere on the motherboard. Clip its leads, and
     | solder them to the IIgs batter clipped leads, after you remove
     | the dead IIgs battery. That's it!

Interjection -- Some of the older computers have DS1216C chipset things
(aka NoSlot Clocks or Smartwatches) on serial cards. RatShack trashed
all their Tandy 1000 SmartWatch cards a year ago after they'd been on
clearance for $1.97 for awhile. Sure, the lithium cell's life is about
10 years so no guarantee a DS1216C gained this way would HOLD the time.

BUE(| JAMECO ELECTRONICS has suitable batteries at cheaper prices than
     | rip-off Radio Shack.

Jameco 33371 1/2AA with leads $5.95
           126754 1/2AA w/o leads $8.95
RatShack 23-025 1/2AA w/o leads $9.99

The solution is obvious, no matter which ROM you have: buy the one
with the axial pins and, if you have a battery socket, cut 'em off!

Interjection -- What I did was ordered a 1/2AA battery holder from
Radio Shack Unlimited, installed it on the spot marked on the mother
board, and am using drop-in batteries just like a ROM 03.
