You are correct that InTrec was formely called "InSync" (the name
change occurred after they learned they inadverently took an existing
company's name) just your off by the date and some history in between.

ProTERM was originally published by Checkmate Technology, from
1986 up until 1990--the year they went out of business. It was at
that point the original programmers then formed a new company called
InSync Software, to continue publishing ProTERM (Checkmate produced
hardware, and probably other software titles). In 1990 they released
ProTERM 2.2, then in 1991 came out with a total rewrite which was of
course version 3.0. In between that time and when ProTERM 3.1 was
released in 1993, they changed their name to InTrec Software. It's
too bad they moved on, I would have loved to have seen ProTERM 4.0
or ProTERM GS (or a stand-alone word processor based on the PT3's
built-in editor). It's neat that they're sponsoring KFest though. :)
