NPSFEDIT bug
For those of you using the NPSFEDIT program to create and edit NeW Print Shop
font files, I have found a bug in the program. I am working on a patch now, but
in the mean time, I will describe how to avoid getting bitten by it.
First, a description of the bug: On certain fonts, and usually on only one
character of the font, the computer will crash when you try to enter a
character into the font after editing it. The character editing area goes
inverse, as expected, but does not go normal again. After a few seconds, you
will hear a beep, which means the computer has crashed into the monitor. On a
couple of occassions, I have had this bug cause the computer to trash the disc
I was storing the font on.
To get around this: After loading the font, take both your font disc and the
NPSFEDIT disc out of the disc drives, to prevent trashing of either in case the
bug gets triggered. When editing many characters in a font, save after every
few characters. This will ensure that you don't lose 2 or 3 hours of work in
case the bug bites you. You will need to put the font disc back in for this,
but not the NPSFEDIT disc. Be sure to take the font disc back out after the
save. Until the bug fix comes out, you will probably not be able to edit the
offending character in the font, but you should be able to edit any of the
others. If you have Print Shop GS Companion, you can import your NPS font, edit
the offending character, then export it in the NPS font format.
