The original ROM firmware had more than just random bugs, it
contained System 1.0 toolsets (very early, mostly beta-ish) and
the maximum RAM Disk size was only 4096K. It also lacked a simple
way to load the built-in the programmer CDA's into memory, or a
Monitor command to put the 65C816 into 16-bit native mode.

The biggest drawback is the 'ROM 00' has not been supported
by Apple or 3rd party programmers for at least a decade now. Most
GS-specific software written after late 1987 will not run -- that
includes System 4.0 and up (all versions of GS/OS). The original
ROM is still quite suitable though, if you use the machine _only_
as an Apple IIe compatible.
