For me, it was a brand new Apple II+. When I ordered it in May of 1980, I had
the choice of getting an Apple II or an Apple II+ - having no idea what the
difference between Integer and Applesoft Basic was, I went with the + since it
was the "Wave of the Future". It was $999.99 with 16k of memory, and I sprung
another $100 for 16 more to bring it to the astounding total of 32k.

When I picked it up, I scheduled a day of vacation for the next day figuring
(correctly) that I'd be up all night. When the sun rose at 6:00 the next
morning, I had been through all the manuals and tapes supplied with the
machine, had a pretty good understanding of Applesoft BASIC, a full ashtray,
and a running start on a journey that would eventually include an Apple IIc,
IIe, IIc+, IIGS, and finally, wrapping back around, an integer Apple II.

They say you never forget your first love, and when it came to computers, mine
was definitely the Apple.
