It's not that surprising though.

Delphi (a pay service) is in direct competition with the internet. The
only way for them to survive is to foster a sense of "community" on their
system.

One way to do that is to create a scapegoat (for which Dr. Tom provided a
pretty good stereotype) of the internet/usenet user as an evil, pirating,
scourge out to destroy what little market the Apple II has left.

Delphi is a valuable service (I registered for one of the free web
accounts: lysergic1, and that's a pretty good deal ;) but I don't agree
with some of their exclusionary policies because they split an already
small user base.
