*WHAT* parallel port?

The IIgs does not have a built-in parallel port.  You need an add-in
parallel card.  Once you get past that little problem, then you need to
make sure that the "Slots" control panel setting for the slot containing
the parallel card (most often Slot #1) is set to "Your Card".
