According to someone missing most of a brain at Apple, things that
just won't work together should still be allowed to plug into the same
type of connector. [They've done that with video, SCSI, serial, and
more connectors, so it's not just a fluke here.] You just have to
learn (hopefully without destroying any of the hardware) what really
can be connected to where after the fact.

Yep. The 'Liron' (as printed on the back) Apple 3.5" disk
controller, will work, as will the Apple 'Superdrive' controller (much
rarer).
