Help friend has an Apple IIGS ... Doesn't boot up (System Disk??)..Don't know much abount Apple ..

Hello,

I have no knowledge about Apple's so please be patient. My friend got an
Apple IIGS given to him by a neighbor. There were no software just the
computer, monitor, keyboard, two external drives 3.5 and 5 1/4 .. We up it
up and we found no hard drive which made me think the computer was only ROM
which means that all software must run from the ex. drives. Now my
question is the following: The computer had no disks. Since there it is
only ROM this makes me think there should be some type of System Disk which
probably need to be run when booting up ... I am confused. To run other
software you must first run the system disk then the software or does most
software for the Apple IIGS have some part of the operating system on the
disk ..

As you can see I am not sure this is right but I would really appreciate it
if someone could help me out. Again this is my friends computer. If I
need system disk where can he get them. Can he buy them somewhere or from
someone???

Thanks beforehand to all which respond
