Pinger init again, anyone?
Since some new programmers have dropped in again, I'm now
posting this request for the second time. I have a
problem with the SCSI Zip Drive on the Apple IIGS. I have
an Apple HS SCSI card and the GS is accelerated to the
extreme. It is an internal SCSI model. Whenever I'm
in a program for more than 15 minutes, the Zip drive falls
asleep and that's when the trouble starts. If I quit the
program, the Finder loads up and complains that the Zip
disk can't be read with installed FST's and "Eject or
Initialize" pops up. Now if I eject and push the disk
back in, everything is fine, but the fact that this
happens and an Initialize option shows up is scarry.
Even worse, some programs when trying to save to a Zip
disk that's asleep will trash the volume (most wake up
the Zip, though).
Does anyone want to write a "Pinger" init that polls the
drives once every say 12 minutes (the Zip falls asleep
on minute 15) to prevent the Zip from sleeping? It should
be very simple, but I don't have the tools or experience
to do so. Thanks.
