Extended Volume Format (HFS+)

In case you all were not aware, today, Apple announced the introduction
of HFS+, which will be available to Mac users with the free update to
MacOS 8, version 8.1.

HFS+ increases the number of files available on a single volume from
32,000 to slightly over two billion.  The allocation blocks are also
increased from 65,000 to 4 billion.

For large Mac partitions, HFS+ reduces the minimum file size and increases
the maximum file size.  For example, a file on a 3Gig hard drive using HFS
might use 32K, while a file on the same hard drive using HFS+ may take up
only the space which is used (e.g. 2K).

Since of course HFS+ would greatly enhance Apple II users' ability to use
large hard drives, I would like to know if someone has the specifications
to HFS+ who would be interested in producing an HFS+ FST for GS/OS 6.0.1.

The technical aspect of this, I would guess, is that Apple simply enhanced
HFS by changing the 16-bit file allocation tables into 32-bit file
allocation tables.  However, there may be more features of the new HFS+
that are not apparent from Apple's press release.
