Run the 14.4kbps modem at 19,200 baud. It should work just fine.

I've never seen a serial port that could be set at 14,400 baud. I think
that transmission speed is something the telephone people came up with for
FAX transmissions or something...every 14.4k modem I have ever seen can
talk to the computer just fine at 19,200 baud. Whether the computer can
run reliably at 19,200 baud or not is another matter.

But give it a try. I have an older //c, and while I have never tried it
(yet) with a modem, I have successfully used it to communicate with
another computer at 19,200 baud with no loss of data or dropped characters.
