Help - IIc Keyboard Trouble
Hello:
I rescued a IIc today from a local thrift shop. It was kind of water logged
so I brought it home and dried it off, inside and out.
After cleaning it up I tried to boot up with a floppy. The program started
loading and then stopped. Tried powering up without a disk, hit Ctrl-Reset,
when the check drive message appeared. the '-' character appeared on screen
and went on and on as if it was stuck. Tried pressing other keys, and the same
stuck effect happened. The last key I press is always repeated across the
screen.
Tried swapping out various chips on the motherboard(including the keyboard
rom and IOU) to no avail. Booted up again with a disk and unplugged the
keyboard. The program loaded perfect. I am also able to run the self-test
which comes back with System OK.
So basically I've narrowed the problem down to the actual keyboard, which I
noticed is the nicer ALPS style keyboard with the gray keys. Is there anyway I
can fix the keyboard? Do I just need to clean the key switches or could it be
the keyboard cable? If not, does anyone happen to have a spare working IIc
keyboard? I can trade a working IIe keyboard, Disk II's, IIe enhancement kit,
etc for one.
I Would appreciate any info and advice. Would love to get it fully working.
Thanks,
Tony.
