But the thing you're missing is... there is a BIG BIG BIG difference between
flaming and public slander. A flame is telling someone off or insulting them
in a thread. A public slander is intent to defame a person's character.
So, for example, when Nutball posts his usual diarreah posts, I can post a
followup saying he's a dickhead, jerk, and an arsehole [Apart from the fact
that I'm not lying ;-)], it's an insult/flame.
However, Nutball claiming that Tom has 1) pirated software, 2) is a druggie,
3) has illegal material on his site; that is not a flame, nor is it an
insult... it is defamanation of character: the systematic attempt to defame
someone in a public forum without proof [well I'm not 100% certain about 1),
but I'm pretty damn sure 2) and 3) have been made without a smidgen of proof,
and in any case I'm willing to give Tom the benefit of the doubt].
Understand the difference?
