   Usually, not at all. If this is a 3.5" disk, you should copy off
what you can, and toss it out. HDs can either have bad blocks "locked
out" with Prosel (i.e. made unavailable to the OS so that it won't
ever try to write to them) If you lowlevel format your HD, most will
try and remap out bad blocks at the hardware level (there's some extra
capacity used for this-- it uses the extra capacity in place of the
bad blocks), but if you get a lot of bad blocks on the HD, it may just
be time to replace it.
