I recently download the ApplePC V2.52 emulator for my IBM Aptiva. I am very
impressed how it preserved the Apple IIe elements. Later I download the game
Archon, and can't get the joystick to work correctly.
Here are some symptoms:
Joystick works for a second then quits, then the keyboard works fine. Will
sometimes move on it's own. Will move in 3 directions but not a forth. It's
only worked right about 2 times. Will work only in certain directions, etc.
The joystick is a new Microsoft Sidewinder.
Here is what I have tried:
I re-installed the driver for the joystick.
I calibrated and tested it in Win95.
I calibrated and centered it in the emulator.
I tried turning the cycle counting on and off, tried all three apple modes.
Here is something I noticed:
In the emulator menu, if I choose "J" to go to the joystick control, then press
"4" to choose the PC joystick. When I hit 4, the little menu comes up that
tell me to move it to all extremes, center it, and press any button. For some
reason, when I move the joystick, the calibrating menu disappears...I never get
a chance to hit the button to finish the calibrating. This problem only occurs
if I run under windows(the emulator switched to full screen anyway), but If I
exit to MS-DOS and then run the emulator, the disappearing menu doesn't go
away....but none of this helps the movement problems.
I enjoy playing Archon very much and would like to be able to use the joystick.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks,
