Dave replied to Johnny, and I wish to add:

The subject comes up in the classic videogame group all the time because
we buy carts & systems with permanent marker and grease pencil on 'em.
So add to the mild soap, isopropyl alcohol, Windex/Glass Plus, Fantastik
(still around but do not use carefully!) a couple more ideas:
1) WD40. Very effective. If you prefer an orange-toluene-scented
thing less greasy, get Goo Gone. There's a new product out called UnDu
which can remove duct tape from toilet tissue (!!!!!) but I haven't had
a bottle of my own to test on ink-on-plastic.
2) Yeah, it's the abrasive method but I do this to my //e case to get
off the hand grime stains which won't come off with liquid & rubbing:
a glass fiber 'pen' (Radio Shack cat# 64-1986) beats all, I tell ya. It
isn't as messy as Comet/BonAmi or harsh as Brillo, and works better than
one of those soft green-scrubbie pads (which I have tried before).
