Desktop printing/laserwriters 8.3.4, 8.4.3 and 8.5.1

I'm currently using System 8 and have recently downloaded Laserwriter
Driver 8.5.1. This has not resolved a printing problem which I've had for
some time using drivers 8.3.4 and 8.4.3 and prior systems. Apple alas have
been of no help whatsoever.
I've been told it is a Desktop Printing problem and have removed these
relevant extensions, but alas getting the same problem. The problem being,
when I print a document, which takes a little while longer to queue and
spool, I can get an error if I continue to print something else 'unable to
open printer', or 'page setup in use' etc anything to do with printing.
I've increased print monitor allocated memory etc, this does nothing....I'm
thinking it is the queue side of printing, as it cannot accept anything new
in the queue other than what it is currently printing...Another weird
thing, is that if I print without any servers on the desktop, it prints
fine, but with servers on the desktop it has problems (the macs print
directly to printers)......
Any ideas anyone???
