It is a small program that you install on your boot partition and
can be invoked by holding down a key when you cold or warm-boot your
IIgs. It will bypass GS/OS and bring up a graphical GUI menu with
mouse control (pretty similar looking to an Amiga, or at least the
mouse cursor anyway ;) where you choose _which_ OS to start. On my
own system I have the option of starting into System 6.0.1, System
3.1 or ProDOS 8. I just select the OS from the menu and click 'OK'.
Actually you can put multiple OSes and System Software releases
on the same partition and switch between them using Taifunboot. You
just have to copy them to the hardrive and label the system folder
(i.e. 'System.2', 'System.3', 'System.4', etc). Other neat features
about Taifunboot, you can have it boot Slot 5 or 6, which is *very*
handy when you have a hardrive (I just insert my disk, hold down a
key when I reboot to get Taifunboot up right away, and tell it to
boot the device in the slot. In my case my 800K drive, SuperDrive
or 5.25 drive). Also neat is that it lists ALL the system extensions
present in _each_ OS on your hardrive, so all the FSTs, NDAs, CDAs,
Control Panels, INITs and drivers; which you can toggle on/off (at
least if your GS isn't accelerated too fast, otherwise you'll have
a difficult time toggling the setting because of a timing bug). You
don't even need to use the '8' key to get into ProDOS anymore. :)
You can get Taifunboot on Ninjaforce's page, just hope over to:
