Re: Apple 3.5 Inch Drive

Okay. How about this, then:

Buy a non-working white Unidisk 3.5 drive. Then transplant a Mac 800K
mechanism into the casing. This will work as long as the analog board in
the Unidisk 3.5 casing is intact.

I have done mechanism-transplants from Macs to Platinum 3.5 casing and
also to Unidisk 3.5 casing; both types succeeded.

: Rewriting the firmware will not change things, even if you have an
: accelerator chip installed place of the 1 MHz 65C02. As I mentioned in
: an earlier post, there are _no_ conventional changes you could perform
: to make the Apple IIc work with the platinum Apple 3.5 drive.

: The Apple IIc Plus is able to use the Apple 3.5 drive because there

: this (along with the equivalent of a 4 MHz ZipChip built-in too). Until
: someone decides to redesign the IIc motherboard (which would be kind of
: redundant, as the IIc Plus is that redesign) or build some complex and
: non-trival adapter interface, the IIc is stuck with the UniDisk 3.5
: drive.
