Out of curiosity, I just tried something else. I had a thought that
maybe it was some sort of initialization problem.
In ShadowWrite, I re-entered the line:
12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890
and changed all the odd numbers to have a red foreground colour and
copied and pasted that line so that there were 30 lines.
Even with more than 1023 style changes, ShadowWrite would still redraw
the text properly even when you clicked the zoom box, covered part of
the text with a dialog box (ShadowWrite's Text Info and Apple's
Calculator NDA) and closed it to uncover the text again and scroll.
But, when I load another document (I loaded the READ.ME for Marinetti)
everything still worked fine until I tried to switch back to the test
text above, either by selecting it from the Document menu or by
closing the second document, the computer hung just like it did when I
saved the file to disk and then tried to reload it.
Maybe this will help someone try and track down the problem as it
seems to only be when it is trying to draw the text from scratch
without any of it being visible on screen.
