This is not at all intended to be snide, but did you refer to the
manual when trying this? I find that it helps since the rf screen
displays are sometimes not obvious.
Make sure you have "HD Backup" flagged to "no". If it was "yes",
you may want to verify that you still have all your data ...

Did it not prompt you with a "confirm that you want to overwrite any
data on the tape" or some such prompt? It should have.
Also note that at least one of the RF ROM versions had faulty
backup/restore firmware. I *believe* it was the 3.01ez, which
was apparently fixed in 3.01f.
I don't use the firmware backup. Tim Grams' GSTape s/w package
is much better.
