Is your Fingerprint card designed for the IIgs?
If not, then that is the problem.

The computer that made the Fingerprint card had to made a version of it 
especially for the IIgs.

If you installed a non-IIgs FingerPrint card in a IIgs, it would typically 
crash the machine when the button was pressed.
