: 1. I'm not sure an Apple III is capable of saving data in ProDOS format,
: since it uses SOS. The files are somewhat comparable, but not entirely
: (from my understanding). I think what it will do is save the files in SOS
: format, then you will have to get an Apple II (any version, not just the
: IIgs) to convert the SOS files into ProDOS files.

Actually SOS and ProDOS are exactly the same format wise.

: 2. Apple IIe's and IIc's are a bit more common in thrift shops than
: IIgs's, although IIgs's are sometimes obtained there as well. Not many
: people are just "giving" away Apple ][ computers for free. In thrift
: shops, an entire system can be had for about $25.00.

I think I see more IIgses in used computer stores these days. I think partly
because people don't consider the 8 bitters saleable any more. They are all
getting hard to find in stores though.

: 3. Your desparaging remarks that no one uses Apple ][gs computers is not
: totally accurate. There are still plenty of us around. Visit the usenet
: group comp.sys.apple2 for proof. CSA2 is also where the poster should have
: posted his original message, instead of in this Macintosh group.

I posted and set followups there for this reason. (For the uninitiated,
"CSA2" is comp.sys.apple2.)
