I've just written an article on "ENHANCING SYSTEM SAVER IIGS," about
installing a quieter more powerful fan.

For the internal fan, just about any DC 12 volt fan (from a junked IBM
power supply can work, BUT the big size 3 1/2" diameter may create a
challenge on where to place it.   I suggest that you seek either (a) a
thin thickness fan, or (b) a smaller diameter fan such as 2" or 2 1/2"


I have installed an internal fan in a IIe and also in a IIe-encased
"stealth GS", each with a 100 ohm 5 watt rear panel speed knob.  Its
useful to install a potentiometer in series with the fan so that you can
tone down the excessive speed noise.
