I can verify that, the //gs monitor is extremely noisy, especially out
the back and sides.  I have a high-quality 17" monitor which meets all
the emission specs (MPR-II, ISO, etc..), and despite all its shielding,
the //gs monitor when turned on can destroy its picture from several
feet away.  I don't know the health hazards, but I doubt I would want 
the side of one pointing at my head for hours on end.
