Prosel & Prodos filesystems

Hi,

I hope someone can help me with this

I have a few questions.

firstly the situation, my family has had a IIGS for years and a while
back
i understood it reasonably well. I've long since switched to macs for
most
of my work because the IIGS is still with my parents who a few hundred
kilometeres from me.

The IIGS works, but it's floppy drive is pretty damn stuffed and
unfortunatly due to that and age some of our floppies have become
corrupted. It's a ROM 3 machine with 2 megs of RAM but no hard drive
or
other addons.

My father wants me to recover the files that are on these floppies one
in
particular is in a pretty bad way, now please don't flame me if i get
some
of these details wrong it's been a while. But sectors 2 and 8 are bung
which makes recovery difficult. Last time I was home I copied this
disk
onto a good floppy using copy II plus 9.0 I then tried to resurrect
the
directory info (in sector 8 from memory) by hand using Prosel. I ended
up
giving up in frustration due to the floppy drive giving me problems
and
due to my foggy memory of the prodos filesystem.

I had an old document from an Australian publication called Your
Computer,
it was some sort of multi platform programming special but it had a
really
good series of articles on the filesystem and hwo things worked. I
guess I
shoudl contact the publisher but... I'm also interested in knowing if
this
information is available anywhere else. Im after a description of all
the
bytes for each file listing in a directory. And a general description
of
how the filesystem works

I intend to be doing the recovery on a power mac running emulation
software. Does anyone think this may be a bad idea? are they capable
of
running programs like prosel and copy II plus which access the system
on a
low level?

I'm also interested in a table of filetypes and subtypes for common
IIGS
applications

anyone know where i can obtain this info

also what is the last version of Prosel and is there any internet
based
way of contacting the company which still sells this product, i live
in
australia and don't really want to make international calls if I can
help
it!

I have read the Apple II FAQ but it is quite vague on where to find
this
information...
