Help! AppleII to PC file conversion

Can anyone help?  I have an old apple II+ with Apple Writer II files on it
that I want to convert to PC.  The files on the Apple II are saved on DOS
3.3 formatted diskettes.  I have a PC but no macintosh if that would be
one option of transferring the files over.  No modem either.  I've heard
of a cable connection to transfer files between the two machines.  How
does this work and what software would I need?  Do Apple II disks have to
be formatted ProDos?  If creating a disk image is one option, how would I
create one, and how would I expand it on the PC?  Any ideas or suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, AD
