I have been able to get 4800-5000 cps on an unaccelerated IIgs running proterm 
3.1, directly connected to a PC (via a null modem adapter). I find that the 
biggest slowdown during such a transfer is the "write to disk". A fairly large 
ramdisk will reduce the write times, increasing your overall thoroughput. It's 
really too bad that the serial port has a 56k limitation, as I think the GS 
can do much better (with an accelerator of course).
