I love Robot Odyssey! It is probably my favorite game of all time. I do legally
have Robot Odyssey v2.0, which (I think) is rarer than v1.0 or v1.1. I remember
a long time ago I bought v1.0 or v1.1 from a garage sale or the like (with
only a manual), and then I sent the disks back in for an upgrade. This was
probably 1985 or so. They sent back v2.0, which had an altered copy-protection
scheme and an incompatible format of storage disks (so I basically had to
start all over).
Nice things about v2.0 include: Twice the number of tutorials, so someone
who doesn't quite "get it" by tinkering around can more easily learn to play
the game. The Teamwork tutorial is very nice. --You can switch the remote off
using just 'R', and you can see visually whenever it's on. --The Toolkit no
longer has the tools in it, only parts. --Sentries now appear blue if you
can't ride through in a robot, and white if you can. --There is a
Robotropolis Preview to make you more apprehensive about the later levels.
--The robots have names!
The only bad thing about v2.0 is that they changed the title screen from
"Robot Odyssey I" to just "Robot Odyssey." Whatever happened to the sequel???
:(
All of the chips in the game are also in the chip library. They are also
fully documented, although you can only read them in the Innovation Lab.
To see them, hold the chip and type '/' or '?'.
Let me know about your conquests in RO... It really is an awesome game.
Good luck!
