Note that the original poster asked about a Desk=Writer=, which is
not quite the same thing. The DW will work fine with most of your
GS/OS programs using the Harmonie drivers (now available from Joe
Kohn for just $20), however, no 8-bit programs currently support
the DW. If 8-bit support is desired, the Desk=Jet= is your better
bet, although you may have to buy a parallel printer interface
card if you don't already have one. (The DW comes with a cable
that will plug right into your IIgs serial port.)
Personally, I have an original DeskWriter C and have no problem
with the lack of 8-bit support. If I could just get the Harmonie
drivers and Apple's NetPrinter control panel to cooperate so I
could print over AppleTalk, I'd be a really happy camper.
(Actually, solving that problem would also partially solve the
8-bit printing problem, since many 8-bit programs can print to
an AppleTalk printer without any problem. I have actually printed
to my DW from both Applesoft BASIC and AppleWorks while hacking
around with the NetPrinter CDev, but I lost GS/OS printing with
the hack in place. Someday I hope to solve that.)
