Anybody who thinks this newsgroup is bad should look at some of the "alt"
groups. Apparently, spammers like to post their bull in any group that
is in that category. The flame wars and pirated crud do not scare me
off. Before I knew about this newsgroup, I had no idea that Gno/me
existed. I had no clue about accelerators. I had never even heard of
such hardware as the PC Transporter, the Superdrive, not even the
RamFast. My knowledge of the Apple II line began and ended with 3.5-inch
and 5.25-inch drives and the Vulcun and Sider hard disks. In other
words, this group has been educational despite its troubles. I don't
even mind all the speculation about what the Apple II could have been.
I think that everybody should add the people who they dislike to their
kill files and that would stop about 80 to 90% of the flame wars. I only
know of one Unix-based news reader that doesn't support kill files and
that is Pine. However, it was intended as a mailer with news reading as
an afterthought. I only use it for posting when I'm reading my mail and
don't feel like exiting.
By the way, if you thought CSA2 was bad, try telnetting to
"bbs.ucrysj.ac.uk." That is the only place I was actually scared away
from by flame wars.
