Usually without opening it you can check the ROM version by
entering the monitor. (from basic 'call -151')
then type fbbf and it will display a single byte. (2 hex digit)
This tells you what ROM version, the chip center near your belly
on the motherboard is.

$FF = original board (I assume the stiff one spoke of recently)
$00 = UNIdisk version
$03 = Memory upgrade version with plug for card at lower
        right edge of mother board.

Not sure about IIc+ though, did they have a different key?

Let us know what your rom byte is? Of course someone might have upgraded
the rom chip on an old board but if your case doesn't look tampered with
it's probably original.
