GS Problems
Having some problems with my GS, and seems the answers do
not lie in Nathan's FAQ...
I brought over my Supra2400plus modem from my //e, and can't seem
to get the "plus" part working. I've tried a number of term programs
on ground (commsys, agate, zlink, proterm demo) and I can't get anything
better than a plain vanilla 2400 connection working. I apparently can
connect with data compression & error correction (I get the "CONNECT..."
message but no data comes through. The Proterm demo was apparently able
to connect with them, but it didn't appear to be all that fast (my //e
could run circles around it) and the moment Terminal emulation was
activated, the system froze up. (And I've no clue where in the mess the
manual for my modem is, so that can't help any.)
I have 3 drives chained to the disk port, an Apple 3.5 drive, and
two Apple 5.25's hanging off of that. The 5.25 drives work fine, but
the GS doesn't seem to know the 3.5 is there. Tried booting off of it,
CATalogging ",S5,D2", and polling it with various programs (CopyIIplus,
ShrinkIt, "BYE"...) The closest I've gotten is Appleworks2.0 seems to
recognize a drive at S5D2, but errors when trying to access it. I've
tried fiddling with the slot settings, the startup slot, zeroing the
RAM disk, nothing. I know the drive works, as I was able to access it
once before (before it's present location I set up the computer on the
floor once to see if it works and did a catalog listing on the drive.)
So until I figure out those things I'm more or less running a
fast //e...with a couple of niceties I admit, big ramdisk to do all
sorts of stuff not possible with my old //e, Appleworks loads entirely
into memory and can take larger than 50k files, and now that I have a
mouse, I'm playing Flobynoid like a madman. =^) Kudos to Second Sight.
