     A check of the pin diagrams for the 4-pin ADB plug and 8-pin serial 
plug indicates that removing pins will not work. No matter what pins are 
removed from the 8-pin plug there is no way to get pins that will line up 
correctly with the 4-pin ADB socket.

     Maybe you could make your own ADB cable from scratch. The 4-pin 
mini-DIN plug seems to be a standard item. Both Digi-Key and Mouser sell 
plugs by AMP which should work. Most likely, a local electronic parts 
supplier will carry 4-pin mini-DIN plugs and offer a selection of cable.
